written 2016, recorded 2020 on Lady Golden
with Lady Death, Knux, and Old Dutch
In dedication to the sacred feminine, the Divine Mother in all her names and guises. The Brigid’s cross is an ancient symbol in Ireland, meant to be hung above one’s door at Imbolc to protect the house from sickness, hunger, want, and evil in the coming year.
lyrics
Oh Mary
Reveal yourself
Through the rosary
Or somewhere else
Or Judith,
Show me darkness
Through one little spark
But don’t you threaten to bring some dark cloud
Upon my day
Not when Mary shines her light through my
Mother in her looking-glass eyes
She’s the fire in my night,
She’s the earth in my bones,
She’s the mother of my nature
Mother of us all
Sweet Mary
Or how about Freyja
Show us just war
Or Selina
Show us more
On-and-on, our prayers go on,
To a God without a name,
So on-and-on, our prayers go on,
To a goddess all the same
But don’t you threaten to take away my dear Mary
Not when she’s the burning light, the firelight in my
Every cold winter’s night
She’s the earth in my bones,
She’s the mother of every stone,
She’s the mother of your very nature
Mother of us all
Sweet Mary
Oh Mary
Reveal yourself
Through the mirror
Or some way else
Show me the way
Could you lead me back from the grave?
Or lend to me the source of all your endless wisdom and mystery, and
Make sense of our history together?
And I will hang a Brigid’s cross above my door
I will hang a Brigid’s cross above my door
I will hang a Brigid’s cross above my door
I will hang a Brigid’s cross above my door
You should hang a Brigid’s cross above your door
They should hang a Brigid’s cross above their door
We’ll all hang a Brigid’s cross above our door
